Reflection:

After settling into Uni, I've finished my first project! I partnered with a friend from College and made a 1 button input game for the week. My teammate was in charge of the programming since I knew that was what he was good at. I focused on the art and the UI for the game, figuring out how I could implement the shop system into the game.

I had fun during his project as it was my first major opportunity to experiment on how to design and let me focus on systems, a thing I enjoy more. I had to come up with a design that could incorporate these items with a shop on the map but not use any buttons. Luckily, We both came up with the idea of using the mouse hovering over the icons for a set amount of time to select something, a unique restriction that I have to design around.

I felt these designs were appropriate and would be doable for them within Unity once I passed over the digital art version of these ideas. We both liked this idea and went with it thinking that It would transfer the best information across since there would always be a time restriction on navigation through menus.

I also went ahead and designed the world that we would use for his world along with the enemies. My teammate then recommended for us to use Synty simple so tried to make all I made fit this style.

I enjoyed spending time learning how to properly design what the game should look like rather than rushing through the process so I could focus on other aspects of the game. I definitely want to continue doing this when I start the next Game Jam even if not all of what I made is in the game due to time restraints.

That’s all for now. Bye!
