This was my 4th Game Jam Project in my first Year of University, it was also the first that would be graded. We were assigned into groups of 8 and were given at least one person of each role taught at the University. This meant that I was 1 of 3 Designers in my group.
Overall
This Project was a bit of a mess overall. The Wiki was made to a decent standard with the help of the other designers but the overall direction for the game and the team's communication was all over the place.
We had a solid idea but it wasn't acted on particularly well and was ambitious for the time we had looking back at it now. I was able to use it as a good source to learn some more Design techniques such as the benefits of Wikis & how they can be utilised in larger groups. The main issue with our implementation was that the quantity of documents cluttered the information flow leading to people unfamiliar with Wikis being confused where to find information.
Wiki
I was really happy with how the Wiki went, being able to layout information and understand this much about the game really helped keep my motivation and understanding up when development the game. It also highlighted the importance of keeping things condensed since it needed to swap through documents a lot, there wasn't a need for long complex thought.
The thing that it didn't help with though was scope. While we had an area for deleted documents, it didn't mean that we cut a lot from the game. We just kept adding instead and it didn't seem like we were adding much since it was in its own separate area where we couldn't see the full scope of the project.
Conclusion
Overall, this made a disappointing game, it had a lot of ambition & seems like ir could've made a nice game. It's a shame that, due to everyone on the team, we couldn't follow through fully and had many troubles staying on the same page throughout development. At the very least there is still a build but its a far cry from what we had planned.
Oh well. Until Next Time!
